eBay Step 3: Take the Best Pictures You Can

When I started eBay, I was quite overwhelmed with the process—it was new to me, I didn't really know what I was doing...can you relate? May I encourage you that as you stick with it, the process becomes much easier and faster, too. Hang in there!

Another important part of listing on eBay is including good photos of your item. You can include up to 12 pictures of an item for FREE. I think I average 4-6 pictures per item, but it really depends on what you are listing and how many photos you think need to be included for a potential buyer to get the best idea of what he/she is purchasing.

The process to get pictures uploaded to eBay is easy and user-friendly—just follow the prompts to upload pictures in the eBay “sell an item” menu.

When first starting out on eBay, just take the best pictures you can. As you stick with eBay, many things you do will gradually improve as you learn more of the “ins and outs.” Right now, you want to get your listing(s) live on the site—do your best and then move on!

To start, just take your pictures in a well lit, decluttered area—that's it :) Take a variety of pictures—front, side, back—whatever you think is important for the potential buyer to see.

For my pictures, I use my phone camera. It's what I have, the quality is good, and it works for me. Phone camera or traditional camera—whatever you have, use that :)

If you're really comfortable using your phone, you can actually list items for sale through the eBay mobile app. I've done that on occasion, but I still prefer to use my computer since the screen is much larger and I like the keyboard ;)

I admit that when I first started on eBay, the photo step caused me to stall...I procrastinated quite a bit on it. Honestly it isn't as complicated as I made it out to be—you've gotta just do it. It does get easier and quicker as you go along. We'll chat more about photos in another blog post, but for today, just take the best pictures you can and move on :)
